After more than 20 years of practicing cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgery, Dr. Swain is changing his approach to the industry to focus on bringing the best outcomes for patients and surgeons alike.
Years ago, Dr. Swain performed a mitral valve repair on one of the original health cost sharing network founders. He considered it an honor, and the patient did exceptionally well, going home in three days. Weeks later, the patient asked Dr. Swain to provide pricing for future patients. Because Dr. Swain was employed and did not own the hospital, this was not possible. That moment planted a seed.
Dr. Swain believes our healthcare system is shifting toward preferring an all-cash system. He advocates for an all-cash, no-insurance model that restores the surgeon-patient relationship by removing corporate interference from fee-for-service arrangements and directed treatment. When facing a health milestone, deciding whether or not to have surgery is a massive choice. Dr. Swain believes patients deserve the time and space to explore every option, including non-surgical alternatives. While newer surgeons might be quick to operate, seasoned experts know that surgery isn't always the answer, and a conservative approach is often best. That’s exactly why Dr. Swain is building this platform: to foster direct, transparent patient-surgeon relationships where you can confidently weigh the pros and cons before making a decision.
